Therapy for Childhood Trauma
If you experienced something as a child that was beyond your ability to cope with, the event can be classified as traumatic. We all have a threshold for what we would consider "trauma". For some people, it was an alcoholic parent. For others, it was moving to a new town. Some children have been physically, sexually, or emotionally abused. Whatever the case may be, we all have childhood trauma in some form.
If there's something buried in your past that you know still impacts you today, I'm here to help you let it go.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) can be useful in treatment of trauma. You will learn how to accept things you can't control, including your past and the uncomfortable feelings, memories, and sensations that accompany triggers in your present life. You will also learn new ways to care for yourself, such as through mindfulness and setting meaningful goals that are in line with what you value most.
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a highly effective treatment for trauma. You can achieve some relief after a single session. ART utilizes methods from several evidence-based practices, and reprograms the way traumatic memories are stored in the brain. This results in a significant decrease in post-traumatic stress symptoms that are triggered when the memories are recalled.
