Narrative therapy is a way to organize your world one word at a time. Throughout our lives, we attach meaning to the things we've experienced, but there's no objective reality or truth. Each of us makes meaning out of different events and may perceive a similar experience very differently. The experiences we have and what we tell ourselves about them become our stories.
Though our stories shape us, painful memories can become muddled and misunderstood. Learn to write your stories in a way that helps you understand what those experiences meant to you, and how the stories you are carrying shape your worldview and major decisions as well as everyday choices.
Writing is an effective way to learn about yourself, including your values and what's most important to you, how you make decisions, what you've believed about the world and yourself, events that you don't fully understand yet, and where your strength truly lies.
You don't have to enjoy writing (or even be good at it!) to heal yourself through narrative therapy. In this method, you are the true expert, but I will be with you for guidance and to witness your transformation. Share your story. Finally feel heard and understood by the most important person: you.
When we have the courage to walk into our story and own it, we get to write the ending.
And when we don't own our stories of failure, set-backs, and hurt, they own us.
