Therapy for Sexual Trauma
The first thing you need to know is this:
I will believe you.
If you have survived sexual trauma, you know how challenging it can be to come forward with your story. Many never tell at all, and that's okay, too.
Whether it's your first time talking about it, or you've shared your story with others before, I can support you on your journey to recovery.
Sexual trauma lives in the body. It's uniquely difficult to heal from, as it plants a seed of shame at the very core of someone's being. If you've ever wondered if there's something wrong with you, if it was your fault, or if you'll ever be okay again, know this: there isn't, it's not, and you can.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) can be useful in treatment of sexual trauma. You will learn how to accept things you can't control, including your past and the uncomfortable feelings, memories, and sensations that accompany triggers in your present life. You will also learn new ways to care for yourself, such as through mindfulness and setting meaningful goals that are in line with what you value most.
Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) is a highly effective treatment for trauma. You can achieve some relief after a single session. ART utilizes methods from several evidence-based practices, and reprograms the way traumatic memories are stored in the brain. This results in a significant decrease in post-traumatic stress symptoms that are triggered when the memories are recalled.
